We’re familiar with the classic bubbly wines; but what are some of the newer (or really, really old styles that are on trend again?) We’ll talk about how this once misunderstood style of winemaking is now highly sought after for casual brushes and the most elegant of events.

Beaujolais Day!
Official Beaujolais Day is in November, but this class is available year round. Let’s get together to taste through different Gamay Noir wines from around the world and learn about the history of the holiday, the styles of wine that can be made with this light-bodied, tasty variety.

Beyond Eurocentric Food & Wine Pairing
Let’s smash the outdated notions of food and wine pairing! For virtual tastings we’ll encourage students to make or buy foods either from their food culture, or from a culture that they are curious about, or if in person we’ll provide the food for the pairing. As a group we’ll work through how different foods and wines interact with each other. What one person considers a good or bad pairing is true for them. Let’s smash the old views of pairing!

Hands-on Wine Blending: Rhône (In-person only)
Join us as fermentation scientist and professional winemaker, Andy McVay, leads us through a blending journey, featuring Rhône varietals. We’ll walk through the process of making blends that please the winemaker’s palate as well as honor the traditions of a region.

Join us for a wine class exploring the wonderful region of Rhône, France. We’ll talk about the history of the wine region, the unique planting and growing conditions, and the flavor profiles that are classic Rhône.

Holiday Wine Cocktail Class
‘Tis the season to up your holiday cocktail game. We’ll teach you how to make single serving or small batch wine-based cocktails. With a focus on drinks that are easy to master, have a lovely presentation, and are super delicious. We’ll have you rocking the holiday cocktail game, even if it’s just for you and your cat. Wine included with registration. Students will receive a supply list of fresh ingredients to procure for class.

Lowdown on Lodi
Some of the most distinctly flavored wines in America come from the tiny AVA of Lodi in the Central Valley of California. The terroir of the area is intensely influential. Learn about the agricultural background of this rural community that opened the doors for a unique wine making region. We’ll talk about family farming, mass production wineries, and heritage vines that have evaded phylloxera.

This iconic grape has a long history in warm-weather regions. Originally from Spain it’s now popping up globally. We’ll taste through three different styles of this wonderful variety; learning about the light, easy drinkers, through the heavy, oaked versions. This class is interactive and discusses history and winemaking style.

The Wonderful History of Portuguese Wines
Portugal has a rich history in wine. From the unique and difficult landscape, to the extreme climate, drought resistant grapes, all the way through winemaking styles. We’ll try wines as we talk about this tiny but mighty wine region.

Unique Australia!
Australia has a rich and interesting wine history. They have had to overcome droughts, fires, heat, and so many obstacles that make winemaking ever so complicated. We will see how our friends in Australia work with varieties we commonly see in America and Europe, and how they put their own spin on the flavors and styles.

What’s Happening in Southern Oregon?
Southern Oregon is home to some of the oldest wineries in the state and represents a plethora of varieties not grown up in the Willamette Valley. We’ll talk about the history, the terroir, the climate, and the ingenuity shown by the wineries and winemakers down south. Sampling three wines of the region will make the class even more delightful.

Wine 101: The Basics of Wine Tasting and Etiquette
Having a strong understanding of the basics of the vocabulary of wine, the etiquette expected at a winery, and some food pairing foundations make it so much easier to find your place in the wine industry. Forget snobbery, this is about survival skills… in the rough and tumble world of wine tasting. Fun for experienced wine enthusiasts, too, we promise! This is the best class for a diverse group of people that includes newbies.

The wine industry was born of cooperation of men and women in the industry. From farming, to winemaking, to hospitality and marketing, to running wineries, women have played key roles along the way. We’ll talk about women who were thrown in, women who scrapped and pushed their way in, and maybe even one or two who snuck in. Join us as we sip and chat about some of the great stories of women in wine.
